Colley Named ACC Performer of Week for Second Time in Three Weeks
April 15, 2014
GREENSBORO, N.C. - NC State senior Andrew Colley has been recognized as the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Performer of the Week for the second time this season, as announced by the ACC office on Tuesday.
The Williamsburg, Va., native who earned ACC Performer of the Week after setting a personal best in the 1,500 meter run at the Raleigh Relays on March 28, emerged from last weekend’s Blue Shoes Collegiate Track and Field Meet’s Elite with the nation’s second-best time in the 1,500m (3:41.61) while also becoming NC State’s all-time leader in the mile (3:59.34).
Competing among a talented field at the Greenville, S.C., event, Colley became the first Wolfpack runner to finish the mile in less than four minutes in an official event, breaking the previous school mark of 4:00.05 set in 1973 by Jim Wilkins.
NC State legend Ryan Hill recorded a time of 3:56.78 in the outdoor mile at the 2012 Morton Games in Dublin, Ireland, an annual international track and field meeting. However, Colley is the first person in program history to record a sub-4:00 mile in an official event during the outdoor season.
The Wolfpack track and field team is currently getting set to compete at the ACC Outdoor Championships, set to begin on Thursday, April 17 and ending on Saturday, April 19 in Chapel Hill, N.C.
