    Track Sending 21 to NCAA Regional Championships
    Raleigh, N.C. - The NC  State track and field team will be sending 21 individuals to the NCAA  East Regional Championships hosted by the University of Florida this Friday and Saturday. To qualify for the NCAA  Championships, individuals will automatically advance if they finish in the top-five in their event at regionals, or they can advance with an at-large bid based on marks from all four regional sites. NC  State has 15 members from its mens team, and six members from the women’s squad all looking to advance to the NCAA  Championships with a good performance this weekend.

    On the men’s side, the Wolfpack has seven individuals ranked in the top-five in their respective events in the East Region.

    Mitchell Pope leads the way as he is the top seed in the shot put. Last season, Pope advanced to the NCAA Championships with a second place showing and his top throw of the season. Pope won the ACC Championships earlier this year, and also broke the 30-year old record in the shot put. Also in the throws, Jason Jones will throw in the shot put, while Chris Crawford will compete in the hammer.

    Another ACC Champion from this season, Dexter Adams, will take part in the long jump. Adams currently has the second-best mark in the East Region in that event. Also in the jumps, Michael Hill will compete in the triple jump.

    Kevin Hutton leads the way for the sprinters, as the 2007 ACC Champion has posted the fourth-fasters time in the 400 meter hurdles this year in the East Region. Reggie Reese will be one of two Wolfpack runners to compete in more than one individual event, as Reese will race in the 100 and 200 meters.

    The NC State men's team will have four runners in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, including three ranked in the top-eight. John Martinze enters with the Pack's top time in the steeplechase ont eh season, as he has the fifth-best mark in the East Region. Less than a second behind Martinez is Tibor Vegh with the sixth-fastest time, while Gavin Coombs posted the eight-best in the region. Bryce Ruiz will also be competing in that race.

    The Pack will also have a pair of runners in the men's 5,000 meters. Wesley Smith has paced the Pack with the fifth-best time in the East Region this year in the 5,000 meters, while Vegh will run in his second race and he is seeded 15th.

    Both Chris Kollar and John Crews will be running in the 1,500 meters. Kollar earned All-ACC honors this year with a third place finish at the ACC Championships.

    The men's side also qualified in the 4x100 meter relay, which will be comprised of Reese, Hutton, Adams, and Omar Wells.

    On the women’s side, the Pack will be sending a mix of distance runners, middle distance runners and a pair in the jumps.

    Julia Lucas leads the way for the women's squad, as she will run in the 5,000 meters. Lucas currently has the second-fastest time in the East Region this year, and last year advanced to the NCAA Championships with her third place finish in the event. Kristina Roth will also be competing in the 5,000 meters, she has the 18th best time this season.

    Jemissa Hess will also be looking for a return trip to the NCAA Championships, as last year she advanced in teh 1,500 meters. She will be competing in that race again this weekend, as she has the 14th-best time thus far. Angelina Blackmon will be running in the 800 meters, she ranks 19th this season.

    NC State will also be sending two athletes in the jumps. DeMiracle Washington has had an impresive first season with the Pack, as she has posted the 16th best leap in the triple jump this year in the East Region. Also for the Pack, Laila Thomas will compete in the high jump.

    The 2007 Outdoor NCAA Championships will be held in Sacramento, California, June 6-9.
