Pearson Named Interim Head Coach at UNC Greensboro
July 23, 2013
GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNC Greensboro announced the promotion of former NC State distance runner Chad Pearson from assistant coach to interim head coach for the cross country and track & field programs on Monday.
Pearson was a three-time NCAA All-America honoree in cross country and track and field for the Wolfpack. He helped lead State to back-to-back ACC cross country team championships in 2003 and 2004, and was an Academic All-American during his career.
Pearson still holds the school record in the 10,000 meters, with a time of 28:37.95 posted during the 2004 campaign.
"Chad is a huge asset for UNCG and a terrific role model for the student-athletes," long-time NC State head coach Rollie Geiger said. "His goal since graduating college has been to be a head coach. He has put the time and commitment into his work in preparation for this position. He came to NC State as an average high school athlete and ended up an All-American who still holds school records at NC State. He knows from his own experience the commitment you have to have to be successful at the collegiate level. This is a great fit for Chad and UNCG."
Pearson joined the Spartans as an assistant coach last season after spending time as a volunteer assistant coach at Charlotte (2012) and NC State (2010-11). He was also a graduate assistant coach at NC State from 2004-2006, working with both the cross country and track and field programs
