Former ACC individual champion and All-American Andy Smith is in his first year as a graduate assistant coach with the NC State cross country program.

A year ago, Smith helped lead the Wolfpack to its fourth Atlantic Coast Conference championship in a row, earning All-ACC honors for the fourth time in the process with a third-place showing in the individual standings. A native of Hudson, Ohio, Smith earned All-ACC and All-America honors as a true freshman in 2000, running sixth at the ACC Championships and 45th at the NCAA Championships.

In addition to his standout performances in cross country, Smith also was a three-time All-American in the 3000-meter steeplechase in track and field, finishing second at the NCAA Track and Field Championships in 2004 and third in 2005. He also was a two-time all-conference performer in the 5000-meter run. Smith's younger brother Wesley is a two-time all-conference runner in cross country.
