Pack Completes Wisconsin Invitational and Blue Ridge Open

MADISON, Wisc. – The NC State men’s and women’s cross country teams competed at the Adidas Wisconsin Invitational on Friday afternoon, as the Wolfpack women combined for a 21st place team finish, while the men finished in 34th place. The women totaled 551 team points, while the men ended the day with a 791 combined total.
Redshirt senior Matt Sonnenfeldt notched a strong 57th place finish in the 8K race in 24:03, followed by redshirt freshman Graham Crawford (24:17), redshirt junior Robert Andrews (24:43), redshirt senior Brian Himelright (24:52) and redshirt sophomore Michael Mansy (24:53).
Stanford won the meet with 135 points, followed by Iona (145), Oklahoma (166), Texas (267) and Arkansas (308) to round out the top five team finishes.
In the men’s open race, redshirt freshman Mitch Mallory was the only member of the Wolfpack to race, and posted a 54th place finish in 25:26.
Sophomore Joanna Thompson was the top finisher for the women’s team in the 6K race, crossing the finish line in 43rd place with a 20:24 time. Freshmen Samantha George (20:52) and Kaitlyn Kramer (20:57) followed suit, while senior Erin Mercer and redshirt junior Samantha Norman both completed the course in 21:01.
Iowa State won the meet with 109 points, followed by Stanford (181 points), Arizona (242 points), Washington (252 points) and Cornell (264 points) rounding out the top five.
Junior Halsey Merritt posted a quality performance in the women’s open race with a 60th place finish and a time of 22:09.
The Pack also competed at the Blue Ridge Open in Boone N.C., where the men’s team raced to a sixth-place team finish with an average time of 25:28.11. Redshirt freshman Vibushan Sivakumaran led all NC State runners with a 17th-place finish (25:06.83), followed by redshirt sophomore Trey Geiger in 27th (25:15.63), redshirt sophomore Matt Schick in 35th (25:23.74) and redshirt sophomore John Harwell in 44th (25:31.69).
In the women’s race, redshirt freshman Erin Foshee led all NC State runners with a 40th-place finish and a time of 19:14.74, with redshirt freshman Olivia Enright crossing the finish line in 46th-place in 19:28.96. Freshman Kaitlyn Davis was the third and final Wolfpack runner and finished 58th overall (19:45.71).
The Wolfpack next competes at the ACC Championships in Blacksburg, Va., Oct. 27.
