WILLIAMSBURG, VA. — Between their attached and unattached runners, NC State’s women’s cross country team placed six runners in the top 10 Saturday to run away with first place in the unofficial team standings at the Tribe Open.

Freshman Deanna Foshee, running unattached, won the women’s race in a time of 22:41, followed closely by redshirt-sophomore Halsey Merritt in second at 22:42 and was the first affiliated runner to cross the finish line. Fourth-year junior Leah Vaughn was a close third at 22:43.

Ryanna Henderson was fourth at 22:52. Allison Hofmann was eighth at 23:01, and Natalie Rich was 10th at 23:24.

NC State unofficially finished second in the men’s race, and the freshman trio of Graham Crawford (3rd place, 25:21), John Sharpe (5th, 25:24) and Mitch Mallory (7th, 25:45) ran strong races in the lead pack. Crawford and Mallory are true freshmen and ran unattached.
