CARY, N.C. - The NC State men's and women's cross country teams hosted the Three Stripe Invitational Saturday morning at the WakeMed Cross Country Course, where both squads posted second place finishes in their respective 5K races.

Despite the second place finish, the Wolfpack men were led by three unattached freshmen at the front of the field, who took three of the top four spots in the race. Newcomer Adrian Ross broke the 15-minute barrier with a 14:58 time, which was good enough for second place. Running officially for the Pack, a pair of redshirt sophomores put points on the board with top-10 finishes, as John Harwell completed the course in eighth place in 15:22, as Matt Schick was right behind him in ninth place with a time of 15:24. Another duo of redshirt sophomores finished in 16th and 17th place, as Trey Geiger and John Wolfe finished with times of 15:45 and 15:54, respectively. Redshirt freshman Cody Pelliccioni was the final official runner for NC State in 24th place, while freshman Clay Jones ran, unattached, to a 24th place finish.

Duke won the meet with 23 total points, while NC State posted 34 points. East Carolina notched a third place finish with 75 points.

In the women's race, redshirt junior Halsey Merritt led the Wolfpack with a second place finish in 18:08, while redshirt sophomore Kaitlyn Davis was the next NC State finisher in eighth place with a time of 18:53. Redshirt freshman Erin Foshee notched a ninth place finish in 18:59, while freshman Esther Fisher came in 10th place, running unattached.

Duke claimed the sweep with a first place team finish and 23 points, followed by the Pack with 50 points and Elon University close behind in third place with 56 points.
