    RALEIGH, N.C. -- True freshman Graham Crawford won a four-second victory over teammate Lewis McPherson on Saturday in the Three Stripe Red Shirt Invitational, held at the Wake Med cross country course in Cary.

    Crawford, running unattached, ran the 5k course in a time of 14:55. McPherson took second place in 14:59.

    Duke's Colleen Schmidt and Gabby Levac took the first two spots in the women's race. Schmidt's time over the 5k course was 17:57. Levac was five seconds off the pace. NC State freshman Deanna Foshee was third, running unattached, and ran the course in a time of 18:11.

    The Three-Stripe Red Shirt Invitational was a "B" race. The NC State varsity, currently in the middle of a two-week training cycle, will be back in action next Saturday at the NCAA Southeast Regional in Louisville, Ky., with berths to the NCAA Championships on the line.
