Nov. 15, 2013
EARLYSVILLE, Va. - The NC State men's and women's cross country teams posted a pair of strong third place finishes at the NCAA Southeast Regional on Friday afternoon at Panorama Farms in Earlysville, Va.
The Wolfpack men finished with a total of 101 points, just six shy of earning an automatic qualifying spot in the NCAA Championships. State fell just behind second place Virginia, who totaled 96 points.
The Wolfpack women finished with 142 points, coming in behind regional champion No. 11 Virginia (57 points) and second place No. 19 William & Mary (69 points).
NC State senior Andrew Colley, who finished second overall on Friday with a time of 28:38.7 in the 10k race, punched his ticket as an individual to the NCAA Championships on Nov. 23 in Terre Haute, Ind. for being among the top four runners from non-automatic qualifying teams.
After today's result, Colley has finished first, second, third and fourth, respectively, in his four races this season.
Joanna Thompson, who ran a time of 20:12.0 in the 6k event, came in fifth place and will also qualify as an individual to the NCAA Championships for being among the top four runners from non-automatic qualifying teams. Both Virginia and William & Mary, the two qualifying teams from Friday, each placed a runner in the top four, thereby allowing Thompson to reach Nationals.
Furthermore, six Wolfpack runners earned All-Region accolades on the day after placing in the top 25 on both the men's and women's side.
Along with Colley and Thompson, Graham Crawford (12th place with a time of 29:23.3), Sam Parsons (23rd with a time of 29:47.3), Megan Moye (21st place with a time of 21:09.2) and Emily Pritt (23rd with a time of 21:10.4) were each named to the All-Region team.
Both the Pack men and women will await announcement tomorrow for an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships.
