    Cross Country Opens Season at Wolfpack Invitational on Friday

    RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State men's and women's cross country teams will open their 2013 seasons Friday in the Wolfpack Invitational at the WakeMed cross country course in Cary, N.C.A total of 12 schools will be competing in the field, with nine of those competing on both the men’s and women’s side.

    NC State, UNC, East Carolina, Fayetteville State, Shaw College, St. Augustine’s University, Averett College, Virginia Wesleyan and Winston-Salem State will compete on both the men’s and women’s sides on Friday. Duke, Meredith College and Belmont Abbey will compete on the women’s side.

    Last year, both the NC State men’s and women’s teams were victorious in the Wolfpack Invitational. For the second straight year, the men’s team recorded a perfect score of 15, while the women’s team posted 24 points.

    This year, the Wolfpack men begin the year ranked third in the southeast region and 25th in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association poll, while the women are ranked 22nd nationally and fourth regionally.

    Overall, the 2013 NC State men’s and women’s cross country teams welcome back a combined three All-Americans and five returning All-ACC performers.

    Redshirt senior Andrew Colley, redshirt senior Emily Pritt and redshirt junior Laura Hoer have all earned All-American honors, with Colley earning back-to-back All-American distinctions in 2011 and 2012. A native of Williamsburg, Va. Colley is also a three-time All-ACC selection as well.

    Redshirt sophomore Graham Crawford, redshirt senior Samantha Norman, junior Joanna Thompson and sophomore Samantha George each earned All-ACC honors in 2012, while George was named 2012 ACC Rookie of the Year.


     

     

    The men's race will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by the women's race at approximately 6:00 p.m. The races are free to the public.
