Geiger, Henes Named Regional Coaches of the Year

RALEIGH, N.C. The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association has named NC State men’s and women’s cross country coaches Rollie Geiger and Laurie Henes as their Southeast Region Coaches of the Year for 2007.

The NC State men’s and women’s teams both finished first last weekend at the NCAA Southeast Regional in Louisville, Ky. The regional victories earned team berths in next week’s NCAA Cross Country Championships, which will be held in Terre Haute, Ind.

The Wolfpack men moved into the top 10 in the final USTFCCCA Division I men’s poll. NC State earlier finished second at the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships and was third at Pre-Nationals. This is Geiger’s 26th season as head cross country coach at NC State.

The NC State women qualified for their 13th straight NCAA meet by winning the Southeast Regional with 106 points. The 19th-ranked Wolfpack finished second at the ACC Championships behind second-ranked Florida State. After serving 15 years as a Wolfpack assistant coach, Henes was named the head women’s cross country coach last year. She was named ACC Coach of the Year in 2006.
