Raleigh, NC -
Ashley Golden is a senior at North Carolina State University majoring in Women and Gender studies. Ashley will be graduating in May and hopes to attend graduate school to receive her masters in social work. Ashley is hoping that these two degrees will assist her in becoming a family and marriage counselor.
Ashley is from Salisbury NC, where she danced at Center Stage Dance Company for 15 years. Through her fifteen years at Center Stage Ashley was trained in ballet, jazz, lyrical, tap, acro, and hip hop. At the age of 6 Ashley began competing and continued competitive dance through the age of 18. Through her many competition seasons she was a member of numerous groups receiving overall recognition at the regional and national levels. Ashley began competing as a soloist at the age of 9. Performing solos in the categories of jazz and musical theater, Ashley was constantly ranked in overall positions at the regional level. In 2001 Ashley was recognized as 2nd overall at Showbiz national talent competition, earning the title of Ms.Showbiz, which is an award given to the best female soloist of the day. Ashley has been given wonderful opportunities throughout her dance career, one of her favorites being Destination Dance. Destination Dance is a week long program in Los Angeles California where dancers are able to take class from very influential members of the dance community, as well as perform in a showcase at the completion of the week.
Ashley auditioned and was selected as a member of the NCSU dance team in the spring of 2008. Ashley has greatly enjoyed all four years as a member of the team. Ashley's favorite part about dance team is the "front row seats" she has been given to all major NCSU sporting events. Ashley feels that dance team has been the best experience of her college career, she will be forever grateful for the opportunities she has been given as well as the amazing lifelong friendships she has created. Ashley hopes to remain an active member of the dance community and hopes to one day own a dance studio for children with special needs. Ashley would like to thank her amazing family, friends, and coaches for making the past four years so wonderful and enjoyable.
