July 28, 2010
Katie Beasley is a rising junior at NC State, entering her third year as a member of the NC State Dance Team. She started dancing at the age of 3, under the instruction of Heather Maree at Dance Specialties in Belmont, North Carolina. With Dance Specialties, Katie competed regionally and nationally, winning many awards such as Top Elite Senior Soloist at Encore DCS, and Top Duet and Trio awards from Nexstar, Star Systems, and Kids Artistic Revue. At her studio, Katie was also awarded with the Dance Specialties Outstanding Senior, Student of the Year, and Showmanship awards.
Katie grew up in Gastonia, North Carolina, where she attended Ashbrook High School. There, she was a member of the cheerleading team, National Honors Society, and Student Council. She was also awarded with the Ellen E. Griffin Talent Award and crowned as Miss Ashbrook during the 2007 Miss Ashbrook Pageant. Katie's sister, Ashley Beasley, was a member of NC State Dance Team from 2004 to 2008, serving as Captain of the 2007-2008 team. After watching her sister dance for the Wolfpack for 4 years, Katie knew she wanted to follow in her footsteps. Katie's long time passion for fashion also helped her to decide to major in Textiles and Apparel Management with a concentration in Brand Management and Marketing.
Katie has spent the last 2 years cheering on the Wolfpack at home football and men's basketball games, gymnastics meets, and select baseball games. She has danced in Daytona Beach, Florida, representing NC State at the NCA/NDA Collegiate National Competition and was named as an All American Dancer by the National Dance Alliance. Katie's love of dance and dedication to the Dance Team helped her to achieve the title of Co-Captain for the 2010-2011 team, awarded to her by her peers.
