Sat out the entire 2003 season while recovering from shoulder surgery ... Pitched summer baseball for the Aloha Knights of the Pacific International League, and went 2-0 with a 5.25 ERA in four appearances. As a junior (2002): Made nine starts and 10 total appearances prior to being shut down with a shoulder problem in late April ... Had his best start of the season April 13 against Duke, a complete-game seven-hitter ... Limited the Blue Devils to three runs and four walks, while striking out 10 ... Fanned a career-high 11 on February 24 vs. Coppin State ... Allowed just three runs, two of them earned, on six hits in seven innings March 22 in a 5-4 victory over Wake Forest, but did not figure in the decision ... Held James Madison to four runs, two of them earned, on eight hits in seven innings February 16 in Charleston ... Walked three and struck out seven vs. the Dukes, but was the tough-luck loser in a 5-2 loss. As a sophomore (2001): Hit his stride at midseason and emerged as the Wolfpack's staff ace ... Went 3-4 with a 4.92 ERA, but pitched much better than his record indicates ... Had one stretch of five starts from March 13 at Winthrop through April 13 vs. Maryland, during which he had just two decisions (1-1), but a solid 3.21 ERA ... Picked up an 11-4 win over Ball State on March 6, allowing three runs and three hits in 5 2/3 innings with a career-high eight strikeouts ... Allowed just two earned runs in 6 1/3 innings on April 2 vs. North Carolina ... Shut out Maryland for seven innings, allowing seven hits, walking two and tying his career high with eight strikeouts ... Gave up nine hits in six innings on April 27 at Duke, but pitched tough and allowed just three runs ... Had perhaps his best game of the season May 16 vs. Florida State in the ACC Tournament, limiting the Seminoles to two earned runs on five hits in seven innings. As a freshman (2000): Made 11 appearances, including two starts ... Made his first start March 1 vs. Davidson and took the 7-5 loss after allowing three runs on eight hits in 3 2/3 innings, walking two and striking out five ... Had his best performance of the season on March 31 vs. Georgia Tech, holding the powerful Yellow Jackets to one unearned run on three hits in 5 2/3 innings ... Walked none and struck out three. High school and personal: Recovered from a lost junior season by earning all-conference honors as a senior in the Tri-County 3-A Conference ... Went 6-2 with two saves and a 2.12 ERA on the mound, walking 16 and striking out 52 in 43 innings ... Also was a standout at first base, batting .387 with seven doubles, four home runs and 28 RBIs in 26 games ... Helped lead Asheboro to a 19-7 record and the fourth round of the North Carolina 3-A playoffs ... Played in just six games as a junior in 1998 due to a collapsed lung ...
