| Jeff Simpson
Director of Baseball Operations
Former scout and recruiting analyst Jeff Simpson joined the NC State baseball staff as director of baseball operations in January 2011. A 2005 NC State graduate, Simpson came back to his alma mater after six years as national scouting coordinator for Perfect Game USA.
During his time with Perfect Game USA, Simpson provided scouting information for the annual MLB June draft, compiled weekly college and high school national team rankings, supervised the scouting and administration of various Perfect Game USA national showcases and tournaments across the country, and wrote up scouting reports for each event.
In addition to the Perfect Game USA events, he scouted the Tournament of Stars and the East Coast Professional Showcase. Simpson also helped to maintain the Perfect Game USA website.
During his six years with Perfect Game USA, Simpson did double duty as an associate scout for the Atlanta Braves (2007-08), Washington Nationals (2009), and Arizona Diamondbacks (2010).
During his undergraduate days at NC State, Simpson served as team manager for the Wolfpack baseball team in 2003, and was an administrative assistant in the summers of 2003 and 2004 for the Wareham Gatemen of the Cape Cod Baseball League. At Wareham, Simpson worked as team equipment manager, camp administrator and team photographer.
Simpson comes from good baseball bloodlines. He is the son of Allan Simpson, founder and former publisher and editor of Baseball America magazine, and now head of PGcrosschecker.com, a scouting and recruiting service for Perfect Game USA.
A former high school player at Riverside High School in Durham, N.C., Simpson graduated from NC State with a bachelor of science degree in parks, recreation and tourism, with a concentration in sport management and a minor in business management.
