ELON, N.C. - No. 6 NC State baseball raced past Elon 12-7 on Tuesday night at Latham Park, thanks to four-run innings in the first and sixth.

Since being shut out on opening day, the Wolfpack (2-1) has batted around at least once in each game. Meanwhile, the Pack pitching staff fanned 10 in both games against Canisius, and kept that double-figure streak alive with 11 strikeouts at Elon.

Trea Turner tied a career high set against Wagner in 2013 by scoring four times on the evening. Turner added three stolen bases, becoming the first Wolfpack baserunner to accumulate more than 90 in his career. The junior finished 2-for-5 with a walk, dropping his 2014 batting average to .500.

Brett Austin went 2-for-6 with an RBI in his second consecutive game in the leadoff spot, starting again in right field. Jake Fincher scored twice in a 1-for-4 game with a walk and hit by pitch. Bubby Riley sent a triple off the top of the wall in center to highlight his 2-for-4 day with two runs and two RBIs. Jake Armstrong opened the game with a two-RBI single and finished 1-for-2 with two runs, two RBIs, two hit by pitches, and a walk.

Wolfpack freshmen Kyle Cavanaugh and Andrew Knizner each provided the first extra-base hits of their collegiate careers, combining to go 4-for-9 with three RBIs and two doubles.

Brad Stone (1-0) earned the win on 5 1/3 innings, striking out four. Freshman Joe O’Donnell made his debut, striking out six in 3 1/3 while holding Elon to two hits. Will Gilbert retired the final batter of the game on a strikeout.

The Phoenix (2-1) scored three runs in the ninth to trim the Wolfpack lead to 12-7, but Elon never managed to narrow the deficit to less than three runs after the top of the first.

The Pack wasted no time in building that commanding 4-0 lead, batting around in the top of the first. Fincher started the rally with a one-out walk. Turner singled through the right side and the pair advanced into scoring position on a balk. Logan Ratledge was hit by a pitch to load the bases with two outs. A passed ball brought in the first run. Armstrong's two-RBI single to right made it 3-0. Cavanaugh sent Armstrong home from first on a double to the right field wall, giving the Pack a 4-0 lead out of the gate.

State poured on three more in the second, started by Fincher being hit by a pitch. An error on the shortstop during a fielder's choice allowed Turner to reach behind him. Riley cleared the bases next, on a triple off of the top of the center field wall. Ratledge pushed Riley to the plate on a grounder to the right side, handing the Wolfpack a 7-1 advantage.

Four more crossed in the sixth, started by a Turner walk and stolen base to put a runner in scoring position. Rley singled to center to put runners on the corners. An Armstrong hit by pitch loaded the bases with one out. Cavanaugh legged out an infield single on a slow roller that stayed fair down the third base line. John Mangum walked to make it 9-3, and a fielder's choice to third added another. Austin's two-out RBI single to center stretched the lead to 11-3.

Turner manufactured one last run in the seventh, leading off with a single and stealing second and third. Ratledge sent a fielder's choice to the shortstop to make it 12-4.
