RALEIGH, N.C. -- Pratt Maynard led a 16-hit attack with three hits, including a two-run home run, and NC State rolled past Radford 8-1 Wednesday in the final game of a two-game midweek series at Doak Field at Dail Park.

The Wolfpack, which won for the third time in its last four games and improved to 7-5, got the win with two-run innings in the second, fourth, fifth and sixth. The offensive outburst backed  the combined six-hit pitching of five NC State pitchers.  Rob Chamra (2-0), the third NC State pitcher to take the mound, got the win with 3 2/3 shutout innings of one-hit relief. He fanned three and walked just one.

The pitching performance was a true staff effort for the Wolfpack, however. Starter Josh Easley worked three-plus innings and allowed just one hit and two walks while striking out six. Nick Rice relieved and allowed a hit and no runs in a third of an inning, and Brandon Price got out of an eighth-inning jam by rolling a double-play grounder, then worked a scoreless ninth inning.

Radford starter Derrick Brewer (0-2) got the loss by allowing a pair of runs on four hits in two innings as the Highlanders fell to 6-6 with the loss.

NC State scored twice in the second inning on a sacrifice fly by Matt Bergquist and an RBI single by John Gianis, knocking in Brett Williams and Chris Diaz. Bergquist drove in Williams with a single in the fourth, went to second when left fielder Matt Hillsinger overran the ball for an error, and scored on Gianis's single to center field.

That made it 4-0, and the Pack added two more in the fifth on back-to-back RBI singles from Williams and Diaz to drive in Peter Bako and Tarran Senay, who pinch-hit earlier in the inning. Bako was hit by a pitch and Senay walked. Maynard made it an 8-0 game with a long home run to right in the sixth.

Radford averted the shutout with a run in the top of the eighth on a bases-loaded walk by Cory Turner, driving in Ricky Sowers, who led off the inning with a single up the middle.

NC State will begin Atlantic Coast Conference play this weekend with a three-game series at Duke. Game times are 6 p.m. on Friday, 2 p.m. on Saturday, and 1 p.m. on Sunday.
