RALEIGH, N.C. -- Pratt Maynard had three hits and three RBIs to lead a balanced attack, and Rob Chamra allowed one run in 5 1/3 innings Wednesday as NC State rolled past George Mason 9-1 at Doak Field at Dail Park.

For the game, Wolfpack hitters were 7-for-14 with two outs, and the Wolfpack scored six of its nine runs with two away.

NC State (10-8) scored in each of the first five innings, and Maynard had plenty of company in swinging a hot bat. Harold Riggins doubled, walked three times and drove in a pair of runs. Chris Schaeffer singled, homered and drove in two. Cameron Conner hit a single and a double and drove in a run.

The Wolfpack took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a bases-loaded walk by Riggins and an RBI grounder by Brett Williams. Maynard singled in a pair of runs in the second to make it 4-0, and Conner's two-out single up the middle in the bottom of the third made it 5-0.

Riggins drove in his second run of the game with a two-out double to straightaway center field, and Schaeffer singled Riggins home two batters later to make it 7-0 after four innings. Maynard's two-out RBI single in the fifth made it 8-0. Schaeffer led off the eighth with a homer, his first of the season, to give the Wolfpack a 9-1 lead.

While his teammates were scoring all those runs, Chamra (3-0) pretty much had his way with the Patriots. He allowed two-out baserunners in four of the first five innings, but carried a one-hit shutout into the sixth. Chamra departed after Blaise Fernandez's one-out RBI double, but the trio of D.J. Thomas, Mike Clark and Rey Cotilla combined to pitch 3 2/3 scoreless innings to finish the game. George Mason had just one baserunner after Chamra left the game, a leadoff walk in the seventh, which Thomas erased with a double play.
