WILMINGTON, N.C. - NC State successfully held off a pair of UNC Wilmington comebacks on Wednesday night at Brooks Field to secure a 10-6 road win over the Seahawks.

The Wolfpack (17-9) rolled to a 3-0 lead through its half of the second, but UNCW (17-8) responded with a pair of runs in the bottom half to keep it close. State batted around for five runs in the third to make it 8-2, and again the Seahawks rallied with a four-run fourth to trim the deficit to 8-6.

Brett Austin finished 3-for-4 with a double, a stolen base, an RBI, and two walks. Austin extends his ACC-leading doubles total to 13. The sophomore ranked third in the nation in that category entering the contest.

Trea Turner drew his first start since suffering an ankle injury on March 8, and responded with a 3-for-4 outing with three RBIs and a run. Tarran Senay drove in a pair on a two-RBI single. Sam Morgan hit his third home run of the year, a two-run shot in a two RBI, two-run performance. Jake Fincher went 2-for-3 and drew a pair of walks.

Austin singled to center on the first pitch of the game, and Turner followed with a single of his own to put runners on first and second. Fincher laid down a sac bunt and reached on a throwing error, Austin scored on the play.

Errors plagued the second inning as well, when Logan Ratledge reached on an error by the third baseman and took second on a failed pickoff attempt. Another fielding error allowed Morgan to reach and Ratledge to score. Austin singled to center with one out to drive in Morgan from second. The Seahawks loaded the bases in the bottom second with two walks, an RBI single, and another walk. One more run came in on a two-out walk.

Bryan Adametz got the five-run third going with a rocket single off of the pitcher’s foot with one away. Morgan homered over the left field fence with two down to make it 5-2. The Pack rally continued with Grant Clyde’s single to left, and Austin’s double to left center. Turner legged out an infield single to score Clyde from third. A walk loaded the bases, and Senay drove in a pair on a single to left to stretch the lead to 8-2.

Wilmington scored four in the fourth, all on a two-out rally. The first two batters of the inning went quietly, but Michael Bass singled up the middle to start a string of six-straight Seahawks to reach. The big hit was provided by Hunter Ridge, whose three-run shot to right narrowed the gap to 8-5. Two walks and a wild pitch later, Ryan LaGrange singled through the left side to make it 8-6.

The Pack added two insurance runs in the ninth. Clyde drew a one-out walk, advanced to second on a balk, and took third on a wild pitch. Austin walked and stole second behind him to put two in scoring position. Turner nailed a two-RBI single up the middle to set the final at 10-6.
