    March 29, 2014

RALEIGH, N.C. - No. 19 NC State baseball suffered a 2-1 defeat in game two of its series with Miami on Saturday at Doak Field at Dail Park, and dropped a 2-1 decision in the resumption of Friday night's suspended game one.

The Pack (15-10, 3-8 ACC) enjoyed solid pitching performances from Andrew Woeck, D.J. Thomas, and Eric Peterson, but continued to struggle at the plate, mustering just one run against Miami (16-12, 7-4) in 12 1/3 innings of play on Saturday.

Saturday opened with game two of the series. Woeck (3-1) took the loss, but delivered a career-long 5 1/3 innings of work in his first career start, holding the Hurricanes to two earned on four hits and a walk while striking out seven.

The senior's seven punchouts are good for the second-best outing of Woeck's NC State career, following an eight-strikeout effort in his last appearance at Maryland. Woeck fanned six on March 11 at Stetson, meaning three of his last four appearances have resulted in the top three strikeout performances of his Wolfpack career.

Thomas took it the rest of the way, holding Miami scoreless on one hit over the final 3 2/3.

Brett Austin went 2-for-4 from the leadoff spot with his first homer of the year. The solo shot in the bottom of the eighth represented State's only scoring punch of the afternoon. Logan Ratledge went 2-for-4 including a leadoff double in the bottom of the ninth, but the Pack couldn't get him across to tie.

Trea Turner and Andrew Knizner provided the Wolfpack's only other hits of the game, going 1-for-4 with a stolen base and 1-for-3 respectively.

Carlos Rodon started on Friday and went six innings with five strikeouts before rain halted play. Rodon allowed one earned on four hits and three walks. Eric Peterson (1-2) ended up with the loss as the only Wolfpack pitcher used in Saturday's resumption, striking out three over three frames and walking none.

Austin went 2-for-4 to extend his team-leading hitting streak to 14 games. Trea Turner provided the Pack's only other hit in a 1-for-4 effort. Matt Vernon scored State's lone run with a pair of walks.
