RALEIGH, N.C. - No. 19 NC State baseball fell 12-5 in its series finale against Miami on Sunday at Doak Field at Dail Park.

The Wolfpack (15-11, 3-9 ACC) scrapped its way to a 6-5 lead in the sixth after trailing 4-0 by the middle of the fifth inning. The Hurricanes (17-12, 8-4) fought off the comeback bid by tying the game in the top of the seventh, and retaking command in the eighth thanks to a three-run homer. Miami added three more insurance runs in the ninth to set the final margin at 12-5.

Andrew Knizner and Jake Armstrong each hit solo homers in the sixth to tie and take the lead. The home runs were the third of the year for both Knizner and Armstrong. Knizner finished the day 2-for-4 including a double. Armstrong went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, two runs scored, and a double.

Jake Fincher went 3-for-4 with a stolen base. Trea Turner drove in a run during a 2-for-5 effort. Preston Palmeiro provided a 1-for-2 outing. Bubby Riley and Matt Vernon each scored once.

Jon Olczak (0-1) took the loss on two innings of relief work, starting in the seventh. Logan Jernigan started and left after two innings and two earned runs. Will Gilbert was the first arm out of the Wolfpack bullpen, holding Miami to one hit for an inning. Joe O’Donnell tossed three innings of relief next, limiting the Canes to one earned on two hits with a pair of punchouts.

Facing a 4-0 deficit heading into the bottom of the fifth, Riley sparked a three-run rally with a leadoff walk. Armstrong doubled to right center to score him from first. Vernon walked next and Fincher dropped down a bunt single to score Armstrong after a throwing error by the Miami pitcher. Chance Shepard drew a pinch-hit walk to load the bases. Turner hit into a fielder’s choice to trim the lead to 4-3.

State took a 6-5 lead in the bottom sixth on Armstrong and Knizner’s homers to left. Knizner led off the inning with his bomb on an 0-2 count. After a grounder for the first out of the inning, Armstrong answered with a dinger of his own to left.
