CLEMSON, S.C. - NC State baseball dropped a 6-1 decision to No. 15 Clemson in its series opener at Doug Kingsmore Stadium on Saturday.

Carlos Rodon (2-5) pitched all eight innings, striking out five and walking none while allowing six runs, three earned, on 11 hits. Rodon records his 379th career strikeout, pulling him within seven of tying Terry Harvey's NC State career record of 386 set 1992-95. Rodon's career innings pitched total climbs to 289 1/3, passing Michael Rogers for fifth all-time at NC State.

Preston Palmeiro pinch hit in the ninth and delivered a line drive to right to go 1-for-1. Kyle Cavanaugh drove in the lone Wolfpack RBI in a 1-for-3 effort. Bubby Riley scored the only run of the afternoon. Logan Ratledge, Andrew Knizner, and Jake Fincher contributed one hit each.

NC State took a 1-0 lead in the fourth on Cavanaugh's RBI through the left side. Riley scored from third on the play after being hit by pitch as the leadoff, taking second on Ratledge's sac bunt, and moving to third on a wild pitch.

Clemson answered with two runs in the bottom half to take a 2-1 lead. The Tigers extended that lead with one in the sixth and three more in the eighth, to set the final margin at 6-1.
