CHARLOTTE, N.C. - No. 15 NC State’s win streak grew to 11 games thanks to a dramatic 2-1 victory over Charlotte on Tuesday night at Robert and Mariam Hayes Stadium.

The Pack (29-10) scratched out a run in the first and another in the second to take a 2-0 lead. That was enough for starter Ethan Ogburn (3-2), who retired the 49ers’ (22-14) first 18 batters to take a perfect game into the seventh. A base hit from the first batter of the seventh broke it up, but Ogburn cruised for another 1 1/3 before leaving with just two hits allowed.

Nursing a 2-0 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth, the Wolfpack needed some magic in the field to preserve the win. Charlotte’s Justin Roland led off the inning with a single to center. A fielder’s choice wiped him out, but left a runner at first. Ogburn left the game for Chris Overman at that point, after retiring 25 of 27 batters faced.

Overman gave up a single to right from Tony Montalbano to put runners on the corners with one out, but rose to the occasion with a clutch strikeout for the second out. Grant Sasser picked up his sixth save of the year by recording the final out in strange fashion.

It wasn’t technically a walk-off win, but the finish was about as close as it could have been. Sasser induced a groundball to second that made it through on a fielding error. The runner from third scored easily to cut the gap to 2-1. During the play, the runner at first rounded third and put on the brakes when Jake Fincher hustled to throw home. Tarran Senay cut off the relay and fired to third to start a rundown. Grant Clyde threw to Brett Austin at the plate, and Austin chased the runner down, diving to apply the tag and finish the 9-3-5-2 play to win it.

Senay and Logan Ratledge had the Wolfpack’s only multiple hit outings. Senay went 2-for-4 with a double. Ratledge finished the day 2-for-4 with a stolen base, his fifth of the year.

Charlotte starter Jason Harris (1-4) took the loss on two earned on seven hits and a walk, over 6 1/3 innings. Reliever Wes Hatley held the Pack to one hit and one walk over the final 2 2/3.

State crossed the plate in the first to take a 1-0 lead. Trea Turner led off the game with a single through the right side, his only hit in a 1-for-4 day. Fincher reached behind him with a bunt single, extending his reached base total to 37-of-39 games. Austin laid down a sac bunt to move both runners into scoring position with one out. Brett Williams sent a sac fly to the warning track in right to score Turner.

In the second, Clyde started the action with a single to center. Adametz gave himself up with a sac bunt to put Clyde in scoring position. Sam Morgan knocked an RBI single through the right side on a hit-and-run to score Clyde and put the Pack up 2-0.

NC State returns to action on Friday, April 19 with a three-game series at Georgia Tech on ESPN3. Radio coverage for the weekend will be provided by 88.1 WKNC. Fans can also follow along with live stats on, or on Twitter via @NCStateBaseball.
