RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State baseball rallied with three runs in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings, before Boston College escaped with a 9-7 win in 11 on Easter Sunday at Doak Field at Dail Park.

The Wolfpack (21-17, 7-14 ACC) stormed back from a 4-0 deficit to tie the game 4-4 heading into the fifth. Boston College (14-25, 5-16) took a 6-4 lead there, and added another in the eighth to make it 7-4. State mustered a three-run rally in the bottom of the ninth to force extras, but the Eagles scored twice in the 11th to set the final margin at 9-7.

Brett Austin and Chance Shepard each came a homer shy of hitting for the cycle. Austin turned in a 3-for-4 outing with an RBI, a run, and two walks. Austin’s performance included his team-leading ninth double and third triple of the year. Shepard started in left and contributed a double, a triple, one run, and two RBIs in his 3-for-6 day. Logan Ratledge went 3-for-5 with a run.

Carlos Rodon started at designated hitter and added an RBI. Jake Armstrong drew a pinch-hit walk with two away in the ninth for his lone RBI. Trea Turner and Preston Palmeiro each scored once. Andrew Knizner scored twice and drove in one. Garrett Suggs provided an RBI.

Brad Stone (3-2) ended up with the loss on one earned over 1 1/3 innings. NC State utilized eight pitchers on the afternoon, after starter Logan Jernigan left in the second. D.J. Thomas worked the longest, a 2 2/3 inning effort, allowing two earned on one hit and three walks with four punchouts.

Down 4-0 in the middle of the second, NC State came back with two runs in the bottom half on Shepard’s RBI double to right center and Rodon’s RBI chopper to second. State trimmed the lead to 4-3 in the third on Austin’s RBI double down the right field line. The Pack knotted the score 4-4 in the fourth on Suggs’s RBI single to first.

Boston College grabbed a 7-4 lead by the eighth, but State answered again with three in the bottom ninth. Turner started the rally with a one-out double down the right field line and a steal of third. Knizner reached on a fielding error to plate the first run. Austin, Ratledge, and Shepard hit three-consecutive singles to narrow the gap to 7-6 and load the bases. A pop up to short left them stranded with two away. Armstrong pinch hit next and drew the game-tying walk.

In the 11th, the Eagles pulled ahead 9-7 on an RBI double to center and an RBI single through the right side. NC State managed to put two on in the bottom half, but couldn’t push any across.
