RALEIGH, N.C. - Logan Jernigan and Brad Stone combined to keep UNC Wilmington in check for eight innings, as NC State baseball cruised past the Seahawks 10-2 on Wednesday night at Doak Field at Dail Park.

The Wolfpack (22-18) rattled off seven runs in the bottom of the first to take command, and added one in the fourth. UNCW (20-20) chopped that lead to 8-2 in the fifth, before State added another pair in the eighth to set the final at 10-2.

Logan Jernigan (5-3) claimed the win in a solid performance, holding UNCW to two earned on four hits with six strikeouts over five innings. Brad Stone entered in the sixth and retired all nine batters he faced. The combo opened the season as NC State’s Saturday and Sunday starters, and returned to form on Wednesday. Jernigan’s command looked sharp following a rocky stretch over the past month. Stone returned to action for only the second time since being rested for an injury following a brief outing on March 30. Cory Wilder pitched a perfect ninth to preserve the win, recording one strikeout.

Nine different Wolfpack batters contributed hits on the evening. Trea Turner led the way with a 2-for-4 performance including a walk, a stolen base, two runs, one RBI, and a double. Carlos Rodon doubled in a start at designated hitter, going 2-for-2 with a run and an RBI. Brett Austin went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs. Logan Ratledge extended his team-leading hitting streak to seven games in a 1-for-4 day with two runs.

Jake Fincher doubled with an RBI. Garrett Suggs scored once and doubled to drive in a pair during the Wolfpack’s seven-run rally in the first. Andrew Knizner crossed home twice in a 1-for-3 effort with an RBI. Bubby Riley had a pinch hit single. Chance Shepard started at catcher and went 1-for-3 with a run, an RBI, and a walk.

NC State took control with a seven-run inning in the bottom of the first, following Jernigan retiring the side in order to start the game. Turner started the rally with a single through the left side. Ratledge followed with a single down the left field line. The pair executed a double steal to move into scoring position with nobody out.

Austin’s sac fly to left scored the first, then Knizner singled up the middle to make it 2-0. Preston Palmeiro and Shepard walked back-to-back to load the bases with one away. Rodon singled to first to make it 3-0 and keep them loaded. Fincher drove in the next run on a chopper to first for the second out. Suggs knocked his double down the left field line to stretch the lead to 6-0. Turner followed with an RBI double of his own to make it 7-0.

The Pack scored once more in the fourth on Shepard’s RBI single up the middle. State made it 10-2 in the eighth when Austin drove in Turner on an RBI single to right center, and Ratledge scored from third on a wild pitch.

NC State returns to action on Friday, April 25 at 6:30 p.m. to host Georgia Tech on ESPN3, the first of a three-game series with the Yellow Jackets. Radio coverage will be provided by 88.1 WKNC. Fans can also follow along with live stats on, or with Twitter updates from @NCStateBaseball.
