RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State baseball won its fourth contest in a row, marking the 900th win of Elliott Avent’s career, by dropping Coastal Carolina 9-2 behind Trea Turner’s 4-for-4 performance with four stolen bases including a swipe of home on Saturday night at Doak Field at Dail Park.

The Wolfpack (26-19) traded single runs with the Chanticleers (22-25) in the first, then took a 3-1 advantage with two more in the third. State added one in the fourth, and Coastal answered to trim the margin to 4-2. State stretched the lead to 5-2 in the sixth, before a four-run rally in the eighth to set the final at 9-2.

Turner stole home for the first time in his collegiate career on a pickoff throw to first in the eighth. The steal represented Turner’s fourth of the night. The junior reached base on an intentional walk after hits in his first four at-bats. Turner finished the night 4-for-4 with a double, three runs, two RBIs, a walk and four stolen bases to reach 20 for the season.

For the weekend, Turner is batting .857 (6-for-7) with eight runs, a double, two RBIs, three walks, and five stolen bases. He’s slugging 1.000 and sports a .900 OBP for the series. Turner has now stolen four or more bases in a single contest three times in his career. His career high of five at Clemson in 2012 tied the ACC single game record.

Eric Peterson (4-2) claimed the win with a phenomenal 4 1/3 innings of no-hit ball. Peterson entered with the bases loaded and State nursing a 4-2 lead in the fifth. He proceeded to retire 14 of the last 15 batters, allowing one baserunner after a wild pitch for strike three. At one point, Peterson fanned six batters in a row. The junior tied his season high with nine strikeouts.

Logan Ratledge went 2-for-5 with two runs and an RBI. Brett Austin hit his second homer of the year in a 3-for-5 night with two RBIs and a run. Andrew Knizner contributed a 2-for-5 outing with two RBIs. Jake Armstrong went 2-for-3 with three runs and a walk. Chance Shepard added an RBI single.

Facing a 1-0 deficit in the bottom first, NC State knotted the score after Turner reached on an infield single and advanced to second on a groundout. Knizner knocked him in with an RBI single to center. State added two more in the third after Turner led off with another single and stole second. Ratledge singled to short, and the pair executed a double steal to set up Knizner’s RBI single to left and Shepard’s RBI single to right.

The Pack scored once more in the fourth after Armstrong walked and stole second, then crossed on Turner’s RBI single through the right side. In the sixth, the Wolfpack made it 5-2 on Turner’s RBI double down the left field line to plate Armstrong.

The game changed in the eighth during State’s four-run rally to seal the contest. Armstrong started it with a single through the left side. After a sac bunt to move him into scoring position, Turner was intentionally walked. Avent ordered another double steal to move both into scoring position. Ratledge singled to short to bring in Armstrong and move Turner to third. Turner broke home on a pickoff throw to first during the next at-bat to make it 7-2. Austin cleared the bases with his two-run jack to left, setting the final at 9-2.
