    Buchanan's Arm; Wolfpack Offense Rolls

RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State baseball team's offense continued to score in double digits and Jake Buchanan shined on the mound as the Wolfpack (9-1) defeated Quinnipiac, 14-3, in the second game of a three game series. The win marked the sixth time in 10 games this season that the Wolfpack scored in double figures, and the third-straight game including yesterday's 17-6 win over the Bobcats (0-2).

Buchanan (2-1) faced little resistance on the afternoon, allowing just four hits - three singles and a double - and giving up only two hits after the first inning. He struck out seven and didn't yield a walk.

Dallas Poulk and Danny Canella each chipped in a homer and three RBIs.

NC State scored two runs in each of the first two innings, getting help from the Bobcats defense that committed seven errors on the afternoon.

In the first, NC State scored a pair on just one hit, getting help on errors from first and second, and a wild pitch. Kyle Wilson led off the game with a single, and moved to second on a fielding error that allowed Dallas Poulk to reach. A wild pitch from Bobcats' starter Todd DeFrancesco (0-1) would allow both runners to advance two bases, with Wilson scoring from second. Danny Canela reached on another error that would allow Poulk to score to make it 2-0.

Two more runs would come across in the second for the Wolfpack, as it once again took advantage of a pair of Bobcats errors. Tarran Senay reached on an error and moved to second on a single from Matt Berquist. Wilson reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases, as the throw to second hit Berquist square in the back to load the bases. Poulk grounded out to the first baseman, Gabe Guerino, who then fired home to try to nail Senay at the plate. Guerino's throw home sailed well high on the play, allowing Senay and Berquist to score for the 4-0 advantage.

Meanwhile, Buchanan retired nine straight batters after giving up the pair of two-out singles in the first. He hit a batter to stop the streak in the fourth but responded with his sixth strikeout of the game to end the fourth. He retired 14-of-15 hitters with no hits between a two-out single in the first and a one-out double in the sixth.

The Wolfpack offense would break the game open in the fourth, putting nine runs on the board to cruise to the blowout win. A single and two walks loaded the bases with one out, and Drew Poulk singled to left to drive in the first run of the inning. Canela followed with a two-run single, and Chris Schaeffer was hit by a pitch to reload the bases. Back-to-back errors would add two more runs, and Dallas Poulk hit a three-run bomb to right center to cap off the inning and stake NC State to a 13-0 advantage.

Canela would add a solo shot in the fifth for the 14th run of the game.

The Bobcats would get on the board with a run in the seventh and two in the ninth, getting an RBI single from Kyle Nisson in the seventh and a two-run single from Ray Buckley in the ninth with the game out of hand.

NC State and Quinnipiac will wrap up the series with a final game on Sunday at 1 pm. The game will not air on 88.1 WKNC as schedule because of the women's basketball team playing in the ACC Championship game against Duke at the same time. The baseball game will air live on gopack.com's Pack Pass for free.
