RALEIGH, N.C. - No. 19 NC State plays host to No. 24 Wake Forest for a three game set this weekend, highlighted by Saturday's St. Baldrick's Day game at 2 p.m.

Following Saturday's game over 84 fans, State and Wake Forest baseball players will get their heads shaved on the field as part of the BaseBald event to benefit the St. Baldrick's Foundation which raises money for childhood cancer.

The initial fundraising goal for the event was $10,000, but as of Monday morning, both schools have already combined to raise over $40,000.

"Everything came together perfectly to make this game possible," said NC State head coach Elliott Avent. "We're playing Wake Forest on St. Patrick's Day, which has a tie-in with St. Baldrick's, and I knew [Wake Forest head coach] Tom [Walter] and his team would be supportive."

NC State will wear commemorative green jersey's for the game in celebration of St. Patrick's Day and in support of the BaseBald movement, while Wake Forest will be wearing gold jerseys, representing the ribbon color for childhood cancer.

Earlier, the Wolfpack auctioned off the jerseys that players will be wearing Saturday. The winning bidders were able to submit the name of a loved one who battled cancer for the name plate on the back of the jersey. Each Pack player will wear that name during the game.

Chase Jones, who is organizing BaseBald events for St. Baldrick's, says the organization supports North Carolina kids with cancer, as well as funding cancer research in the Triangle.

A childhood cancer survivor himself, Jones says the head shaving at the game sends a message of solidarity to kids who've lost their hair during treatment.

"It's hard to be able to put into words what it means for someone to be able to commiserate on the simplest of levels," said Jones. "The hope it instills is immeasurable."
