NC State baseball's Brett Austin has been named the ACC Baseball Player of the Week for his efforts against Wake Forest, Radford, and Virginia Tech, announced Monday by the conference office.
Austin hit .455 for the week as the Wolfpack clinched a bid as the last team into this week’s ACC Championship. One of three NC State captains for 2014, Austin rose to the occasion on the final regular season weekend, catching both ends of a doubleheader at Virginia Tech that the Wolfpack swept to secure its postseason bid.
The junior catcher from Charlotte, North Carolina, set a career high with four RBIs in the Pack’s midweek win over Radford, before hitting for a cycle against the Hokies and Highlanders combined with a pair of homers, a triple in the second game of the doubleheader, and two doubles in the midweek.
The honor marks the third time in the last four weeks that NC State has had an ACC Player or Pitcher of the Week after Trea Turner earned the accolade on May 5, and Carlos Rodon captured the award on April 28. Austin's ACC Player of the Week award is the first of his career.
