RALEIGH, N.C. – Drew Poulk continued his torrid hitting, and Pratt Maynard and Tarran Senay drove in two runs apiece Saturday as NC State wrapped up the regular season with an 8-4 victory over Duke at Doak Field at Dail Park.

The victory clinched a sweep of the Blue Devils and guaranteed the Wolfpack the seven seed in next week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Championship. NC State improved to 36-20 overall and 15-15 in the ACC. Duke dropped to 29-27 and 8-22.

Coastal Division champion Virginia and Atlantic Division co-champion Clemson will be the two top seeded teams for the ACC Tournament, which will be held from Wednesday, May 26 though Sunday, May 30, at NewBridge Bank Park in Greensboro.

As the No. 1 overall seed, Virginia (23-7 ACC) will be placed atop Division A and will be joined by No. 4 Miami (20-10), No. 5 Florida State (18-12)  and No. 8 Boston College (14-16).

Clemson (18-12) is the No. 2 seed and will be joined in Division B by No. 3 Georgia Tech (21-9), No. 6 Virginia Tech (16-13) and No. 7 NC State (15-15).

Under the pool-play format, each team will play one game against each of the other three opponents in its division Wednesday-Saturday (May 26-29). The two teams with the best records within their respective division brackets will advance to the title game on Sunday, May 30, with the winner earning the ACC’s automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.

Complete pairings, dates and game times for the entire 2010 ACC Baseball Championship will be released by 5 p.m. on Sunday (May 23).

On Saturday at Doak Field at Dail Park, freshman Ethan Ogburn, the second of six NC State pitchers to work in the game, picked up the win with two innings of work. He improved to 2-0. Duke starter Sean O’Grady fell to 2-5 with the loss.

NC State jumped on O’Grady for an early 2-0 lead. Kyle Wilson walked and scored on a Dallas Poulk triple. Dallas then scored on a sacrifice fly by Drew Poulk. Duke countered with Jeremy Gould’s leadoff home run in the bottom of the second to trim the Wolfpack lead in half at 2-1.

The bats exploded for the Pack in the bottom half of the third. Dallas Poulk led off with a hard hit single to center field. Drew Poulk singled up the middle to advance Dallas to third, and Harold Riggins walked to load the bases. Pratt Maynard doubled to the right-field corner, scoring both Poulks and increasing the Wolfpack lead to 4-1. Senay hit his second double of the game to clear the bases and make it 6-1. Bergquist singled up the middle to score Senay. Kyle Wilson then singled to right, with Bergquist scoring when Duke right fielder Joe Pedevillano flubbed the ball attempting to field it.

Jake Lemmerman singled off Ogburn to start the fourth, and Gould hit his second home run of the game to chip the Wolfpack lead to 8-3.

The Blue Devils closed the gap to 8-4 in the top of the eighth. Ryan Munger singled off Wolfpack reliever Alex Sogard. Mike Carroll pinch hit and singled to center. Will Piwnica-Worms walked to load the bases, and Lemmerman singled to score Munger.
