    Buchanan Makes Major League Debut

    June 21, 2014

Former Wolfpack pitcher Jake Buchanan made his major league debut on Saturday for the Houston Astros, starting and working 4 1/3 innings at Tampa Bay.

Buchanan (0-1) ended up with the loss after allowing a pair of runs in the first, but worked his way out of a one-out, runners on the corners jam to keep the Astros in range.

The Wolfpack righty settled down, retiring four in a row in the second and third, and holding the Rays hitless for eight batters in a row into the fourth. Buchanan ran into trouble in the fifth and left after 90 pitches, allowing five earned.

Buchanan, an eighth round pick by the Astros in 2010, was called up from Triple-A to make a spot start in place of Brad Peacock.
