Baseball Team Gets Ready for Intrasquad World Series

The NC State baseball team, entering the final phase of fall practice, will hold its annual three-game Intrasquad World Series beginning Wednesday, October 11, at 6 p.m.

Game two of the series will be on Thursday, October 12, at 6 p.m., and the third and final game will be on Friday, October 13, at 4 p.m. All three games will be played regardless of the outcome of the first two games.

“I hope people will come out to see our World Series games,” head coach Elliott Avent said. “We came into fall practice with a lot of work ahead of us, and the team has responded. We still have a lot of work ahead of us, but we’ve gotten a lot done and have gotten better.”

The Wolfpack, seeking its fifth NCAA Tournament bid in as many years, will have a new look in 2007. Six everyday starters are gone from last year, but the pitching staff is back and healthy, and a strong 16-man recruiting class hs been brought in.

All-America second baseman Ramon Corona, catcher Caleb Mangum and left fielder Ryan Pond are back, along with a strong nucleus of returning pitchers. Bolstering the pitching staff is the return to health of injured starters Andrew Brackman and Jeff Stallings. Brackman was shut down after seven starts in 2006, while Stallings missed the entire season because of elbow surgery.
