White Cruises 9-4 In Series Finale
RALEIGH, N.C. Kyle Wilson and Biss Larsen each went 3-for-3 and drove in a run to lead a 15-hit attack as the White team cruised past the Red team 9-4 in the second and final game of NC State Fall World Series. The White team won both games of the series, taking the first game Saturday 5-4
Drew Poulk led the Red team with a home run, a double and three RBIs, and Cameron Conner had two hits, including a double, and an RBI.
Drew Poulk got the Red team off to a fast start with a three-run homer to left field in the top of the first inning, his third extra-base hit in his last three at-bats. Brian Bello’s RBI double and Dusty Quattlebaum’s RBI single to center field in the bottom of the first cut the lead to 3-2 after one inning. The White team added three more in the bottom of the second on an RBI single through the left side of the infield by Larsen, a run-scoring wild pitch the fourth in the two games and another RBI single by Quattlebaum.
The White team put the game away with a three-run fourth inning. Domonique Rodgers drove in a pair of runs with a single to right field, and he and Bello pulled a double steal, with Rodgers swiping second and Bello stealing home to make the score 8-1.
The Red team scored its final run in the top of the sixth. Drew Poulk led off with an infield single and Harold Riggins walked. Conner singled through the right side to drive in Poulk. Wilson’s two-out RBI single in the bottom of the sixth drove in Larsen, who had doubled, with the White team’s final run of the game, which went seven innings.
On the mound, Jason Zinser got off the a shaky start for the White team, allowing Poulk’s three-run homer in the top of the first, but retired nine of the remaining 10 men he faced. Mike Russo worked three innings for the White team and allowed a run on four hits. Rob Chamra worked a scoreless seventh inning.
