In the first of three public scrimmages this weekend, NC State baseball's white team edged the red team 2-1 in six innings on Thursday night at Doak Field at Dail Park.

Junior righthander Logan Jernigan stole the show with a sterling 10-strikeout performance for White over six innings to record the win.

The majority of those strikeouts came between the second and third frames, when Jernigan cruised by fanning seven of nine batters faced.  Jernigan allowed one earned on four hits, but did not walk a batter.

On the Red side, Johnny Piedmonte and D.J. Thomas looked sharp, combining to hold White to two earned on six hits with four strikeouts.

Freshman Nathan Hood drove in the game-winning run in walk-off fashion with a bases loaded gapper to left. Fellow freshman Andrew Knizner started at third and paced the white team in a 2-for-2 performance with a double, a stolen base, and a run scored.

Jake Fincher stole two bases and scored the game-winner in a 1-for-3 outing. Newcomers Matt Vernon, Luke Voiron, and Garrett Suggs chipped in one single each.

For Red, Carlos Rodon led the way going 2-for-2 at the plate, including a run scored by pinch runner Markel Jones. Preston Palmeiro provided the lone RBI with a single in the second inning.

NC State returns to the diamond for game two on Friday night at 8 p.m. Game three takes place Sunday at 2 p.m. Fans can follow along with all of the action by following @NCStateBaseball.
