    A respected veteran of the coaching ranks, Larry Hunter joined the Wolfpack staff in May of 2001 after serving as a head coach for 25 years. He was named the Wolfpack's Associate Head Coach in August of 2002.

    Hunter, whose teams posted winning records in 23 of his 25 seasons as a head coach, boasts an overall record of 509-224 and ranked as the 16th-winningest active coach in the country at the conclusion of the 2001 campaign.

    As a head coach, Hunter made 12 NCAA tournament appearances. He spent 12 years at Ohio University, where he was the Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year in 1993-94 after winning the regular season and tournament titles. At Ohio, he coached 16 All-MAC performers, five conference players of the year and four first-team Academic All-MAC selections at Ohio. Thirty of the 38 players he coached at Ohio who completed their eligibility there graduated and he posted an overall graduation rate as a head coach of 85%.

    In his last season at Ohio, the Bobcats were 19-11, with a 12-6 mark in MAC competition, and his overall record with the Bobcats was 204-148.

    From 1976-89, Hunter was the head coach at Wittenberg University, where he won National Coach of the Year honors in 1977 after becoming the first coach in NCAA history to win a national championship in his first season. During his 13 years in that position, his team turned in a 305-76 record and made four NCAA Division III Final Four appearances.

    The Wittenberg squad won the national title in 1977 and was the National Runner-up in 1983. He coached three national players of the year at Wittenberg

    Hunter, who worked as an assistant coach at Marietta College from 1971-73, graduated from Ohio in 1971 with a B.S. in education. He earned his master's in physical education in 1973.

    Hunter is married to the former Mary Kay Friedrich of London, Ohio. Mary earned her B.A. in dental hygiene from Ohio State University and an M.S. from Wright State University.
