After a 6-0 home stand to close out the 2012 portion of its schedule, the 23rd-ranked NC State men's basketball team tips off 2013 with its ACC opener at Boston College on Saturday at 4 p.m.

The Wolfpack (11-2, 0-0 ACC) is looking for its fourth consecutive victory in the series with the Eagles and its
third win in Chestnut Hill. NC State won the meetings in Raleigh and at the ACC Tournament by margins of 14 (76-62) and 21 points (78-57), respectively, but faced tougher test when the two teams met at BC's Conte Forum on Feb. 1, 2012. The Eagles slowed the pace considerably and forced a more half-court game with neither squad leading by more than eight points in the contest. NC State took control in the final minutes of the game and Lorenzo Brown sealed a 56-51 victory with a pair of free throws in the closing seconds. The Pack was led in scoring by Scott Wood with a game-high 16 points.

NC State is 33-26 all-time in ACC openers and 14-18 when starting league play on the road. The last time State opened league play on the road was the 2008-09 season at Clemson, falling to the Tigers, 63-51.

Saturday's conference debut is one of the most anticipated in program history as the Wolfpack is the preseason favorite to win this year's ACC title by a poll of media at the conference's annual Operation Basketball media day in Charlotte. It's the first time since the David Thompson era that NC State was picked to win the conference, earning 26 of the 53 first-place votes cast.

The other times the Pack was tabbed to win the league was the 1973-74 season, when Norm Sloan's team was coming off a perfect 27-0 ACC championship season, one of two undefeated seasons in ACC history. Prior to the 1974-75 campaign, Thompson's senior season, NC State was also selected to win the league. It finished tied second and missed making the NCAA Tournament after falling to North Carolina in the ACC Tournament championship game.

ESPN2 will broadcast Saturday's game with Dave O'Brien and Doris Burke on the call. It can also be heard on the NC State radio network with Gary Hahn handling the play-by-play and Tony Haynes breaking down the X's and O's. Satellite radio subscribers can also listen to the game on Sirius channel 106 and XM channel 190.

NC State returns home on Jan. 9 for its ACC home opener when it hosts Georgia Tech at PNC Arena at 8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online or by calling the NC State ticket office at 865-1510.
