    NC State-Missouri Coaches Quotes

On game -- "I thought it was a great game. There was great defense and good strategy. Both teams did a lot of things well. It was an old-fashioned, slug-it-out contest."

On first half -- "I'm never surprised by anything. That's why people are looking for the 3-point shot. You want to make the most of every possible possession. We didn't shoot well in the first hal and you have to attribute that to good defense."

On NC State -- "Give them a lot of credit. They have a very tough schedule. They have to go into league play right after this game and that made this game a tough one for Coach Valvano to prepare for."

On defense -- "We were doing a good job of helping out. We could never bust out in the first half. If we could, it might have been a different game."

On free throws -- "Jon (Sunvold) was great from the line and Stipo (Steve Stipanovich) hit a couple of big ones. Ron Jones got one of his down. It's easy to point out the negatives. We're just like any other club. We do some things well, and some things not so well."

On Dressler -- "I thought his jumper and his drive to the hoop at the end were keys."

On effort on road trip -- "I think this club is sincere about their effort. There isn't a lack of effort on this club."

On game -- "Shooting was the major factor in the game. This must be the worst we've shot all year. Credit the Missouri defense. They're the ones that could have caused the bad shooting. Our defense was geared to stopping their guns (Sunvold and Stipanovich). And we did that.

On fouls -- "Fouls change the tempo of the game. We had planned to go inside and then go outside, but that changed with the fouls. With three starters on the bench, things couldn't run smoothly.

"We should have played Missouri on Thursday. Their stat sheet shows that they have never won a game on Thursday."

On second half -- "They got a spurt and the calls went their way. The garbage baskets hurt us. We wanted to close down Sunvold and we did a good job. We felt we were playing good defense, but the shots weren't falling at either end."

On Missouri -- "Missouri is a great team. They're where they belong (in the polls). But we're a good team too."
