The Starting 5 - The Top 5 Storylines For This Game
1. THE TOP SCORER IN THE TOP CONFERENCES
T.J. Warren is the ACC's leading scorer with 23.0 points per game and is the top scorer among all players in the Power 5 conferences. He leads the ACC in both 20-point games (21) and 30-point outings (5). The 6-8 sophomore is the only player in the ACC with multiple 30-point performances. Warren poured in a career-best 34 points against Wake Forest and added 23 points at Syracuse last Saturday. Those two outings came after his 27-point performance at Miami. Warren, who has reached double figures in 27 of his last 29 games, is also first in the ACC with a .520 field goal percentage (minimum 5 FG made per game). Warren and is also among the ACC's leaders in rebounds (8th), offensive rebounds (1st), minutes played (8th) and steals (6th).
2. 1,000 FOR T.J.
With 20 points at Clemson on Tuesday, T.J. Warren lifted his career points total to exactly 1,000. The milestone points came on a 3-pointer in the final second of the game at Clemson. He became the 49th Wolfpack player to reach the 1,000-point mark, achieving the milestone in just his 60th career game.
3. MARCO POLO WOLFPACK
Saturday's contest in Blacksburg completes a three-game road stretch for NC State. This road swing marks the first time since 1991 the Wolfpack has had three straight ACC games on the road. That season, NC State played at Maryland, Virginia and Georgia Tech over a 9-day span. Presently, NC State is one of six ACC schools asked to play three in a row on the road this season (Georgia Tech, Clemson, Notre Dame, Syracuse, Miami).
4. TURN IT UP AT THE TIP
Ralston Turner, who started for two seasons for LSU before transferring to NC State, has stepped up and become a reliable second scorer for NC State. In his 12 starts this season, Turner is averaging 12.4 points per game. In his first start in conference play, Turner scored 23 points to lead NC State to a win over Maryland. In his 14 games off the bench, Turner is averaging 8.6 points per game.
5. HOKIES `GOTT' BEAT BY NC STATE
Before Mark Gottfried came to Raleigh, Virginia Tech had won four straight games over NC State. The Gottfried-led Wolfpack has turned the tables on the Hokies over the last two seasons, however. NC State has won three straight over Virginia Tech, including an 80-63 win over Virginia Tech in last year's conference tournament. NC State's average margin of victory in those three wins is 11.0.
