Raleigh, N.C. - NC State will play San Diego State in the second round of the NCAA Tournament in Columbus on Friday. This is the Pack's 23rd trip to the NCAA Tournament, and its first since the 2005-06 season. The Wolfpack is 32-20 overall in the Big Dance, and one of only 17 teams that have won two national titles, 1974 and again in 1983.

The game is at 12:40 p.m. on truTV.

"Today was a very long day," said head coach Mark Gottfried. "When you are the last team picked, its a long show. I am very proud of what this team has accomplished. The room erupted when we saw our name, and these players should feel good."

The Wolfpack enters with a 22-12 record under first-year head Mark Gottfried, whose inaugural win tally at NC State is second to only legendary coach Everett Case for first-year Pack mentors, who was 26-5 in the first-ever ACC campaign.

The 22 victories represent the most wins by the program since the 2005-06 season when it concluded the year with a 22-10 mark and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Including this season, the Pack has posted 22 wins in a season just three times over the last 22 years.

NC State's wins are also the most by a rookie ACC head coach since North Carolina's Bill Guthridge was 34-4 in 1998.

"It was intense," said Scott Wood. "There was a lot running through our minds, it was as crazy as you could get. It feels good, and I just can't describe how excited we are."

Gottfried has made 17 postseason appearances as a coach and a player, including 14 trips to the NCAA Tournament. He helped UCLA to seven NCAA trips and a 11-6 mark in the tournament, and was an assistant coach when the Bruins captured the 1995 national championship.

In his previous head coaching stops, Gottfried led his alma mater Alabama to five consecutive NCAA Tournaments (2002-06), including a trip the Elite Eight in 2004. At Murray State, Gottfried guided the Racers to two NCAA Tournament berths in 1997 and 1998.

As a player at Alabama, he helped the Crimson Tide to three straight Sweet 16 appearances from 1985-87, posting a 6-3 record.

The Pack is led by sophomore forward C.J. Leslie, who is averaging 14.6 points per game (9th - ACC) and 7.5 rebounds per outing (7th - ACC). Leslie's classmate Lorenzo Brownleads the league in steals with 1.8 per game and is second in assists with 6.4 per game (12th - nationally). On the year, he has 216 assists, which is seventh best on the Pack's single season list.

Junior Scott Woodleads the conference in three point shooting percentage at .411 percent and is second in made threes per game at 2.7.

State is one of two league programs (Duke being the other) with four players ranked in the conference scoring leaders.

The Pack enter the postseason with the ACC's third most potent offense, averaging 73.4 points per game and second only to UNC (82.0 ppg) and Duke (77.5).

"We are facing a very good team that has been ranked all year and plays a very fast-paced style of offense," said senior C.J. Williams. "I am so thankful for this opportunity in my last season, it is hard to put into words how we are feeling. Wow!"
