Men's Basketball Holds Year-End Banquet
RALEIGH, N.C. The 2008-09 NC State men’s basketball team gathered one last time on Sunday night, as the Pack held its annual year-end banquet at The State Club.
Courtney Fells was presented with the David Thompson Award, given to the men’s basketball player who displayed exceptional skills, versatility, a high-level of productivity, and a winning attitude.
Tracy Smith was awarded the Most Improved Award, given to the player who increases his level of play throughout the course of the season.
Julius Mays was presented with the Best Teammate Award, awarded to the basketball player that displayed the best sportsmanship as voted by the team.
C.J. Williams was given the Jim Valvano Coaches Award. The award is given to the player whose performance expresses the highest level of team loyalty, dedication to his school, and an attitude and spirit that inspires his teammates to never give up.
In a brand new team award, Ben McCauley won the practice player of the year award, given to the basketball player who exhibited the best hustle, spirit, and hard work to help improve himself and the team during practice.
The Pack also honored the six players who achieved a semester GPA of 3.0 or higher. Ben McCauley (sport management), Enrico Kufuor (communication), Kaycee Obi-Gwacham (biological sciences), Johnny Thomas (sport management), C.J. Williams (management), Julius Mays (management) were all given the Scholar Athlete Award.
