Richard Howell Signs Training Camp Deal With Trail Blazers

Richard Howell, who averaged a double-double last season for the NC State men's basketball team, has signed a training camp deal with the Portland Trail Blazers.
The partially-guaranteed contract will see Howell report to the Blazers' camp in Oregon, which begins Tuesday, Oct. 1. Howell played for the Denver Nuggets this summer in the NBA Las Vegas Summer League.
The Marietta, Ga., native averaged 12.7 points and 10.9 rebounds as a senior for the Wolfpack, which won 24 games and advanced to the NCAA Tournament Second Round. His rebounding total was first in the ACC and fifth nationally. He was one of just two players in the ACC to average a double-double.
Howell finished his career at NC State with 1,214 points and 1,055 rebounds, one of only five NCSU players ever to reach 1,000 in both categories. His 392 career offensive rebounds was a school record.
Howell is the third player from last season's roster to earn an NBA opportunity this fall. Point guard Lorenzo Brown was drafted by the Minnesota Timberwolves and forward C.J. Leslie signed a deal with the New York Knicks. Additionally, Scott Wood player with the Los Angeles Clippers summer team before signing a pro contract in the top league in Spain.
