RALEIGH, N.C. - Freshman point guard Anthony "Cat" Barber sustained a concussion during NC State's basketball practice on Tuesday, Oct. 1. His status for return to basketball competition is day-to-day.

Barber, a McDonald's All-American last year out of Newport News, Va., is being held out of practice and is being evaluated under NC State's concussion protocol within the supervision of the school's athletic training staff and team physicians.

The injury occurred during a loose-ball scramble on Tuesday, near the end of the team's first official workout. He collided with sophomore teammate T.J. Warren, who came away from the play without injury.

Barber, widely regarded as one of the top point guards in the 2013 class, is expected to be a key contributor to the Wolfpack this season. NC State will update his status pending the results of his ongoing concussion testing.
