OTHER HIGHLIGHTS: As a player - An all-district performer at Missouri Southern; Captained the NAIA National Championship squad in 1972; Inducted into the Missouri Southern Hall of Fame in 1993; As a coach - Led his 1976 Memorial High School team to the state 3A championship; Coached on three conference championship squads, the 1988 SEC Champions (LSU) and the 1998 and 1999 MAC Champions (Marshall); Marshall had the top-rated offense in the MAC each of the past two years and ranked seventh nationally in 1999; Coached seven players to All-MAC honors at Marshall; Marshall quarterback Chad Pennington was a 1999 Heisman finalist, an All-American and the MVP of the 2000 Senior Bowl.
