    Getting Ready to Bowl: Accommodations

Learn what it takes to get the Pack set up for a bowl game

Joe Pate has worked as an Assistant Athletic Director since 2004, and was the Director of Football Operations for the 2007 and 2008 seasons. Pate is a 34-year veteran of the coaching ranks, including 11 with the Wolfpack.

Pate coached the defensive line in addition to special teams in 2002 and 2003, tutoring defensive front standouts Mario Williams, Manny Lawson and Tank Tyler.

Pate quickly developed NC State into one of the top kick blocking units in the nation, including a school record 10 blocked kicks in the 2002 season.

He served as NC State's defensive coordinator from 1986-89 and helped the team to three bowl games during his first stint with the Wolfpack. His 1988 squad ranked eighth nationally in total defense, fifth in scoring defense and sixth in rushing defense.

Pate earned his B.S. in physical education from Alabama in 1968 and a M.S. in education (school administration) in 1970. Originally from Ashford, Ala., Pate is married to the former Leslie Russell and the couple has three children, Katherine, Darrow and Jackie.
