PLAYING EXPERIENCE: A four-year letterwinner for Eastern Illinois, he played running back for one season and defensive back for three seasons.

EDUCATION: Earned a B.S. in health and physical science from Eastern Illinois in 1965; Earned a master's in physical education from Illinois State in 1971.

PERSONAL DATA: Born April 20, 1942 in Decatur, Ill.; Married to the former Dorothy Sain of Decatur, Ill.; Has two sons, Daniel and Ryan.

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS: As a player - An all-conference defensive back during his senior year in college; As a coach - Coached three All-ACC running backs at NC State, Anthony Barbour, Gary Downs and Tremayne Stephens; Coached 1998 ACC Rookie of the Year Ray Robinson, who was a second-team All-ACC performer in 2001; Coached T.A. McLendon who won the 2002 ACC Rookie of the Year and was named All-ACC first-team; McLendon also led the ACC in rushing touchdowns with 18 and finished second in rushing with 90.2 ypg as a freshman; 2002 and 2003 squads led the ACC in scoring.
