PERSONAL DATA: Born October 20, 1946 in Danville, Pa.; Williams is married to the former Mary Anne Harkins of Danville, Pa. They have three children, Michelle, Mary Elizabeth and Gavin, and three grandchildren, Carly, MacKenzie and Dylan.

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS: As a player - A member of NC State's famed "White Shoes Defense" in 1967, he played defensive back on the squad that allowed just 94 points in 11 games; As a coach - Williams has coached in 11 bowl games, and has been on the coaching staff of six ACC Championship and three Missouri Valley Championship squads; Has coached several All-Americans, including Danny Colbert and Drane Schrivner at Tulsa, Woodrow Wilson at NC State and Ray Farmer at Duke; Coached the 1995 Blue-Gray Game in Montgomery, Ala.; 2002 Wolfpack defense was first in the ACC in total defense (300.8 ypg), pass defense (175.5 ypg), and sacks by (48). The 2004 defense led the nation in total defense (221.4) and ranked second in pass defense (119.0).
