RALEIGH, N.C. - Six members of the 2013 Wolfpack football squad were named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Football Team, the league office announced this morning. Only Duke had more student-athletes named to the list than NC State, while the Pack’s six honorees was the most since 1971.
To be eligible for consideration for the squad, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career. A student-athlete in graduate school must maintain a 3.5 grade point average. The ACC has selected an All-ACC Academic Football team every year since 1954.
Senior linebacker Zach Gentry earned the honor for the second time, as he was also an All-ACC Academic performer following the 2012 campaign. Five of the six honorees were starters for Dave Doeren’s squad in 2013, while two - Bryant Shirreffs and Jack Tocho - were true freshmen.
