Raleigh, N.C. - Former NC State defensive back Dontae Johnson was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the 4th Round of the 2014 NFL Draft on Saturday. Johnson is familiar with 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh, as he was offered a scholarship out of high school when Harbaugh was the head coach at Stanford.

NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock said he sees Johnson as a cornerback in the NFL. Johnson played both safety and cornerback in 2013, totaling 82 tackles for the Wolfpack. He ran a 4.45, 40-yard dash and posted a 38.5-inch vertical jump at the 2014 NFL Scouting Combine.

NC State has now had at least one NFL Draft pick for 18 straight years, and 29 of the last 30 years overall.

Johnson is the first former Wolfpack player drafted by the 49ers since Manny Lawson (1st Rd.) and Marcus Hudson (6th) were both picked by San Francisco in 2006. He joins former secondary teammates David Amerson, Brandan Bishop, C.J. Wilson and Earl Wolff all on NFL rosters.
