Philadelphia, Pa. - NC State junior quarterback Jacoby Brissett has been named to the watch list for the 2014 Maxwell Award, the Maxwell Football Club announced today.
The Maxwell Award, named in honor of Robert W. "Tiny" Maxwell, has been given to America's College Player of the Year since 1937. Maxwell's contributions to the game of football were extensive, including as a player, a sportswriter and an official.
Brissett, one of nine Atlantic Coast Conference players on the list, red-shirted last season for Dave Doeren's Wolfpack after transferring from Florida and threw for 365 yards and two touchdowns in the Wolfpack's 2014 spring game. He played in 13 games for the Gators, starting three and in 2011 became the first true freshman quarterback in Florida history to take his first career snap as the starter.
Brissett was rated as one of the top quarterbacks in the nation following his prep career after he led Palm Beach's Dwyer High School to its first state title.
