RIO GRANDE, PUERTO RICO - Albin Choi moves into the top 5, while the NC State men's golf team is up to 12th after Monday's second round of the Puerto Rico Classic at Rio Mar Country Club.
The Wolfpack improved by 12 shots from day one with a 3-over 291 on Monday, and sits at 18-over 594 through 36 holes.
Choi began the day tied for 10th after an opening with 70 on Sunday morning. The All-American from Toronto, Ontario, closed strong with three birdies over his last six holes, including a birdie, birdie finish to post a 3-under 69 and is tied for fourth at 5-under 139 for the tournament.
He has 10 birdies through two rounds, five each day, and only three blemishes on his two scorecards - a triple bogey in round one, and a pair of bogeys in round two.
Junior Logan Harrell, competing in his first tournament for the Wolfpack after transferring from South Carolina, fired an even-par 72 today and is tied for 42nd at 4-over 148. He posted four birdies on Monday's round.
Senior Hunter Howell is tied for 59th at 9-over 153, senior Mitch Sutton is tied for 63rd at 11-over 155 and freshman Carter Page is T71 at 13-over 157.
No. 6 Alabama and Oklahoma are tied for the team lead at 19-under 557. No. 20 SMU is eight shots back in third.
Eduardo Castiello (Oklahoma) and Mikey Moyers (Virginia Tech) hold a one-shot lead at 7-under 137. Alabama's Scott Strohmeyer is in second at 138, followed by Choi and Austin Smotherman from SMU at 139.
The third and final round begins with a shotgun start on Tuesday at 8 a.m. The Wolfpack will be paired with North Carolina and East Tennessee State starting from holes 12-15.
